    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a laser beam welding method by which an abutted part of steel plates is welded by forming a keyhole.
      SOLUTION: When a butt joint of metallic sheets is keyhole-welded with a laser beam, the laser beam is oscillated in the advancing direction of the welding in the range of 0-15° angle, wherein the angle is formed by the center direction of the amplitude of the laser beam that scans the abutting part in the advancing direction of the welding and by the normal line of the metallic sheet surface. Preferably, the scanning is performed in the manner that the amplitude of the laser beam oscillation is not less than the beam spot diameter but less than three times the diameter, and that the frequency is 100-300 Hz equal to the plasma frequency preliminarily determined from a relation between the laser output and the plasma frequency.
