    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce labor, shorten time, and to reduce cost for the construction operations in a vertical shaft in a preparation step in a method of reaching a shield.
      SOLUTION: A shield dock 3 capable of housing the generally lower half of a shield machine 1 and upwardly opened is attached to the inner wall surface of the vertical shaft 2. The shield machine 1 is moved forward until it reaches the inside of the shield dock 3. Specifically, a liquid W is stored in the shield dock 3. On the other hand, an underground water is pumped up, through a deep well, from the underground near the shield machine 1 on the outside of the vertical shaft 2 until the level of the underwater near the shield machine 1 on the outside of the vertical shaft 2 is maintained at the level of the generally lower part of the shield machine 1 or below. Then, the shield machine 1 is moved forward until it reaches the inside of the shield dock 3.
