    • PURPOSE:To prevent the thermal deformation of cooling block and development of residual strain by dividing the cooling block composing of mold for continuous casting machine in the width direction to the prescribed pieces and contacting closely each divided cooling piece as separable. CONSTITUTION:The mold is constituted by going round the cooling block chain 2 connecting the cooling blocks 1 on the endless chains so as to form the straight walls 3 on facing each other, and a casting sheet 4 is cast on the surface of the cooling block 1 while the shell being grown gradually. In the above constituent mold for the block type continuous caster, the above cooling block 1 is constituted under being divided to plural cooling block pieces 5 in the width direction. The above each cooling block piece 5 is brought into closely contact with side by side pieces on the contacting face 6 with the molten metal as separable by a compressing spring 13 through a guide rod 11, which pieces in the penetrated hole by drilling, and a holding piece 8, and a shaft for prevention of rotation 16 is arranged in a U-shape groove 14. In this way, as the thermal expansion of the cooling block 1 caused by the molten metal is absorbed by the above compressing spring 13, the developments of the thermal deformation and residual strain are prevented and the above mold is enabled practical use.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent the cooling at the top end of a nozzle and the generation of a triple point problem and to form a casting plate having a good surface without plate breakage by continuously supplying intermediate materials having a heat insulating characteristic and consumability between the pouring nozzle and moving molds of a continuous casting machine. CONSTITUTION:The intermediate materials 7 such as carbon fibers or ceramic fibers having the heat insulating characteristic and consumability are continuously supplied between the pouring nozzle 6 and moving blocks 3, 4 of the continuous casting machine, by which a molten metal 10 is continuously cast. THe top end of the nozzle 6 is not cooled by the materials 7. Solidified shells 11 of the molten metal 10 are, therefore, not formed at the top end of the nozzle 6 and begin to form from the surface contact parts of the blocks 3, 4 to which the molten metal progresses. The generation of the triple point problem of the shell 11 welding arising from the cooling at the top end of the nozzle 6 in contact with the blocks 3, 4 is thus prevented and the defects by the generation of the breakage and surface crack of the casting plate are surely prevented. The materials 7 are annihilated by combustion and the cooling of the molten metal 10 by the blocks 3, 4 is not hindered.
