    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely detect the presence of defective joining in a joining part formed by a friction stirring joining method.
      SOLUTION: The joining part 20 immersed in water is scanned along its longitudinal direction by an ultrasonic probe 34. An ultrasonic wave Q1 is emitted from the ultrasonic probe 34, in the scanning. A partial component of the ultrasonic wave Q1 is reflected by an inner face in a lower end face 24 of the joining part 20, and a reflected ultrasonic wave Q3 is generated as a result thereof. A peak (measured B echo) attributed to the reflected ultrasonic wave Q3 is measured, and an intensity T2 of the measured B echo is compared with an intensity T1 of a theoretical B echo appeared when no defective joining exists. The presence of the defective joining in the joining part 20 is determined when the intensity T2 of the measured B echo is low compared with the intensity T1 of the theoretical B echo.
