SOLUTION: This recording/reproducing separation type magnetic head is provided with a magneto-resistance effect type head 11 having a magnetic resistance effective film 25 and a pair of electrodes 26 connected electrically to the magneto-resistance effect film 25 between a lower part shield 23 and an upper part shield 28 provided on a substrate 21, and an induction type thin film magnetic head 12 having a coil 33 between a lower part magnetic pole 31 and an upper part magnetic pole 35 provided on an upper part shield 28 of the magneto-resistance effect type head 11 through a separation film 29 through a magnetic gap film 32 and an inter layer insulation film 34. And the sum of film thickness of the lower part shield 23 and film thickness of the upper part shield 28 is set to 0.4μm or more to less than 3.4μm.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively reduce projecting of a magnetic head functioning section from a magnetic head floating surface caused by heat generated from the magnetic head itself and heat from environmental temperature.
SOLUTION: A magnetic head is provided with a reproducing function section 11 which converts magnetic information from a recording medium into electric signals, a writing function section 10 which has an electromagnetic converting function so as to write the magnetic information onto the recording medium and a first protective film 30 which is formed on the sections 11 and 10. A second protective film 31 is formed on the film 30 and the linear expansion coefficient of the film 31 is made smaller than the linear expansion coefficient of the film 30. Moreover, the film 30 is an alumina film and the film 31 is an alumina film with oxidized silicon added. Furthermore, the film 30 is an alumina film and the film 31 is a film whose main component is carbon or boron. The film 31 is an alumina film having equal to or more than 5% of oxidized silicon added thereto.

SOLUTION: The magnetic head includes a recording head provided with a main magnetic pole and one or more auxiliary magnetic poles, a reproducing head provided with a reproducing element; exciting coils having different magnetomotive force located on both sides of the main magnetic pole in a manner to sandwich the main magnetic pole, the magnetomotive force for exciting the main magnetic pole is made asymmetrical; and thereby, the magnetic flux density flowing through the backing layer is decreased without decreasing the recording magnetic field intensity of the magnetic head, and thus the disturbance od recording bits and noise in reproducing caused by the magnetic field generated from the backing layer can be reduced.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin-film magnetic head, of which the temperature rise of components is small, the heat off is satisfied and further the shortening of a magnetic path length (making the coil to narrow pitch) is attained, and also to provide its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: When a coil of the thin-film magnetic head is formed, after a lower layer coil 16 is formed first, alumina or an inorganic compound 17 containing alumina is formed, and after that, a groove for forming an upper layer coil is formed by an RIE. At this time, the lower layer coil becomes a prevention film of the loading effect at the RIE to enable the uniform etching. The Cu plating is carried out on this groove, and the flattening process (CMP) is carried out to form the upper layer coil 22, then the subject two layers coil is completed. The heat generated from the coil is efficiently radiated to the side of a substrate by enveloping it with alumina having good heat conductivity or the inorganic compound containing alumina. Also, the lower layer coil performs a part as the etching stopper since it has a selection ratio to the RIE of alumina or an inorganic compound containing alumina, therefore, the upper layer coil groove is stably formed, resultantly the coil film thickness can be stably formed, and the shortening of the magnetic path length is attained. SOLUTION: A film (alumina film) 23 which is nonmagnetic and has an electrical insulation characteristic is laminated on a lower magnetic shield 21 and thereafter, an antiferromagnetic layer 5, a fixed magnetic layer 4, a nonmagnetic intermediate layer 3, and a free magnetic layer 2 are successively formed thereon. Soft magnetic films 10 of high resistance are formed at both ends of the magnetic layer 2. As a result, a region where the magnetization traverse torque by the external magnetic field acting on the magnetic layer 2 varies in the track width direction is formed. A GMR (Giant Magnetoresistive) element of the narrow track width (Twr) can be realized by forming the regions where the magnetization traverse torque is small at both ends of the magnetic layer 2.
