    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize thinned large-screen display where a joint is made inconspicuous and a high-definition picture by composing displayed pictures of plural liquid crystal display element so that space is not left on a screen and marking the joint of the displayed pictures on the screen inconspicuous by a matrix-state light shielding layer. SOLUTION: Light 80 made incident on a light incident surface of a collimating means 10 is totally reflected on a boundary surface between a high refractive index part and a low refractive index part, becomes a pseudo point light source on a light outgoing surface having high refractive index, and is turned into parallel beams 81 by a microlrns, so that the parallel beams 81 are efficiently obtained. Then, the picture displayed on the display screen of the liquid crystal display element 40 is formed to be an unmagnified state at a specified position on the element 40 in the normal direction of the element 40 by an image-formation means 30 but it is actually formed to be still the unmagnified state in an oblique direction by an optical path changing means 50. Thus, the pictures from the elements 40 are joined with not space in between and formed on the screen 70. Since the space between the display elements 40 is hidden by the effect of a black matrix 71 arranged on the screen 70, the picture without space is obtained.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain an image display with high contrast by arranging a film whose refractive index is nearly equal to that of the member for the surface of a reflection type liquid crystal panel which is adhered with adhesive agent whose refractive index is nearly equal to the member for the surface of the reflection type liquid crystal panel on the surface of the reflection type liquid crystal panel, installing a light reflecting means on the film and reflecting illuminating light toward the reflection type liquid crystal panel. SOLUTION: A phase plate 70, a light diffusion layer 80, a polarization plate 90, an adhesive layer 12 and a light guide film 11 are successively provided on the surface of the upper transparent substrate 22. Plural prism parts 11a for reflecting the illuminating light to the rear side of the light guide film 11 are installed on the surface of the light guide film 11. By changing the shape of a groove in accordance with a distance from an illumination lamp 13, the uniform illumination is accomplished by the prism part 11a. The light guide film 11 is adhered to the polarization plate 90 with the adhesive layer 12 whose refractive index is nearly equal to those of the conductive film 11 and the polarization plate 90, then, multiple reflection is not caused, then, the image display with high contrast can be attained.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the uneveness of color tone and brightness and to improve color balance by providing each liquid crystal layer between linear electrodes with a thickness regulated to make wavelengths indicating the peak transmission rates of a color filter and the liquid crystal layer nearly coincident with each other. SOLUTION: Each liquid crystal layer 50 between a plurality of linear electrodes 40 has a thickness regulated such that a wavelength indicating the peak transmission rate of a color filter 24 formed between the linear electrodes 40 is coincident with a wavelength indicating the peak transmission rate of the liquid crystal layer 50. For example, the color filter 24 is formed to have a level difference, that is, in order to have a peak transmission rate in a wavelength where the thickness of the liquid crystal layer 50 takes an optimal value for each pixel, i.e., the polarized light transmission rate of each color becomes high, a blue pixel color filter 24B is formed thicker than a green pixel color filter 24G, and a red pixel color filter 24R is thinner than the green pixel color filter 24G. Thus, in the blue pixel, the thickness 60B of the liquid crystal layer is thinner than the thickness 60G of the liquid crystal layer of the green pixel, and the thickness 60R of the liquid layer of the red pixel is thicker than the thickness 60G of the liquid crystal layer of the green pixel.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a color liquid crystal display device in which the range of displayed colors is wide and which is of bright by specifying the product between the anisotropy of the refractive index of liquid crystal and the thickness of a liquid crystal layer as a liquid crystal element and using the optimum combination of a color filter, a polarizing plate, a back light and the liquid crystal element. SOLUTION: This device is constituted of a liquid crystal element 3 which is provided with a color filter 1 and a polarizing plate 2 and which is to become an optical shutter and a back light 4. Moreover, a color filter in which stimulating purities are thought important or a color filter in which stimulating purities and brightnesses are balanced is used as the color filter 1 and plural number of three wavelength type lights are used as light sources of the back light 4. Moreover, it is desirable for the color filter 3 that peak values of transmissivities in the wavelength area of 450-650nm of respective color elements of green, blue and red are large in the order of green, blue and red.

    • PURPOSE: To increase contrast and to enhance the uniformity within the plane of display by widening the intersected point parts of a points. CONSTITUTION: The intersected points of the grid-like black matrix of a supertwisted nematic type color liquid crystal display element formed by holding liquid crystals with electrode substrates arranged with color filters on one thereof are widened to a circular or elliptic shape and the spacers 2 are arranged at these intersected points. For example, the black matrix 1 of the display element of a display scale 640(X3)×480 pixels is arranged to a grid form at a width of 30μm and pitch of 100μm in a longitudinal direction and at a width of 30μm and a pitch of 300μm in a transverse direction. The intersected points are widened to the circular shape and the spacers 2 are arranged in these parts by screen printing, etc. As a result, the light leakage by the spacers 2 and the adhesives 3 for fixing these spacers and the light leakage by the disturbance in the orientation of the liquid crystals which occurs around these parts are lessened.
