    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To save maintenance man-hours by securing safety of passengers and protecting a component unit even in a freezing and snowing environment. SOLUTION: This passenger conveyor 1 is provided with an endless stairs 7 arranged and to be moved between a lower getting on/off floor 5 and an upper getting on/off floor 6 of a main frame 2, a handrail 9 to be moved in synchronism with the stairs 7 by being guided by a peripheral edge of a railing 8, and a controller 10 for controlling the operations of the stairs 7 and the handrail 9. In this case, the passenger conveyor is provided with a measuring means 11 for detecting the temperature of a component unit of a passenger conveyor 1 and the accumulation of snow on the passenger conveyor, and the controller 10 is provided with a means for estimating freezing and an accumulating of snow in the time zone in which the passenger conveyor 1 is stopped on the basis of the measured value from the measuring means 11, and an operation command means for moving the stairs 7 or the handrail 9 toward either the getting on/off floor sides 5 or 6 from which frozen ice or accumulated snow can be easily discharged to the outside, out of the upper getting on/off floor 6 and the lower getting on/off floor 5 when freezing or accumulating of snow is estimated.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure the safety of a passenger, protect an instrument and save the control power by providing a temperature measurement means, connected to a control device electrically, for measuring the an air temperature around the conveyer for a passenger and a generator, contacted to the comb shaped plate by the order of this temperature measurement means, for making this comb shaped plate and its periphery to a high temperature. SOLUTION: The electricity generating means of a generator 11 as well as the temperature measurement means of this electricity generating means are equipped on A part between both entrance floors 5, 6 near a step 7 of the position of the tips of a lower entrance floor 5 and upper entrance floor 6 and comb shaped plates 5A, 6A. The generator 11 is composed of a rod shape or band shape electric heat body and the freezing of both entrance floors 5, 6 (ice formation and snowing) melts by directly spread heat so as to ensure the safety of the passenger's feet. While, the freezing between the precisely meshed step 7 and the teeth tips of the comb shaped plates 5A, 6A and its damage and deformation are prevented. Further, the generator 11 displays and releases the function by the heating and stopping order by a control means.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent dust from being scattered in a machine chamber or being accumulated in the middle part of the machine chamber by arranging partition plates, which are brought into contact or non-contact with a footstep, in the front and in the back of a cleaning brush in the moving direction of the footstep in addition to the cleaning brush. SOLUTION: In the moving direction of a footstep 7, partition plates 16 are arranged in the front and the back of a cleaning brush 12. When an escalator is operated upward, the footstep 7 is moved toward the left and dust adhering to the footstep 7 is removed by means of the partition plate 16 so as to be scattered backward, however, the dust is not moved backward but accumulated in a part λ between the both partition plates 16 as the cleaning brush 12 is brought into contact with the footstep 7. When the escalator is operated downward, the footstep 7 is moved toward the right and dust adhering to the foot step 7 is removed by means of the partition plate 16 so as to be scattered backward, however, the dust is not moved backward but accumulated in a part &Ogr; between the both partition plates 16 as the cleaning brush 12 is brought into contact with the footstep 7. The partition plates 16 are brought close to the footstep 7 as much as possible if they are made of nonmetallic material, while a clearance (e) is arranged between the footstep 7 and the partition plates 7 if they are made of metallic material.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively increases the temperature of the whole of a comb by a method wherein a heat generating body is mounted directly in an arbitrary position below the comb formed of a material having excellent thermal conductivity. SOLUTION: A comb 2 to comb the uneven surface of a step 1 is formed of a metallic material having excellent thermal conductivity to transmit the heat of a heat generating body 5 to the tip and the surface of the comb. The heat generating body 5 is a sheath heater closed in a metallic pipe and by adjusting length to a value approximately equal to the overall width of a plurality of the arranging comb 2, the temperatures of the combs 2 are simultaneously increased. Since a groove in which the comb 2 is inserted makes contact with the heat generating body 2, outer shapes are the same as each other and formed approximately a U-shape and arranged in an arbitrary position. A heat insulation material 7 prevents emission of the heat of the comb 2, heated by the heat generating body 5, to the base plate 3 side. A thin substance, such as glass fibers, is used and has approximately the same size as that of the mating surfaces of the comb 2 and a base plate 3 and a plurality of through- holes through which a fixing tool 9 and an elastic substance are extended are formed. The heat generating body 5 is pushed up by an elastic body having size lower than a groove width and a press plate and makes reliable contact with the comb 2.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent impact with a footboard from occurring even when lifting force acts on a cleaning brush by installing a means to regulate displacement of this brush to the tread side. SOLUTION: A tread cleaning device 8 is equipped with a means to regulate any displacement of a cleaning brush 11 to the side of a footboard 3. This displacement regulating means is composed of a crossbeam 14B of a main frame being situated at the side of the cleaning brush 11 of an arm 9 and a stopper 15 locked to the arm 9 in opposition to this crossbeam 14B. In addition, the stopper 15 comes close to the crossbeam 14B with a gap (g) which is set to be smaller than a space (h) between the upper end of a support fitting and the return side footboard 3. Supposing that the cleaning brush 11 is hitched on the footboard 3, a tip of the arm 9 is uplifted by moving force of the footboard 3 via the cleaning brush 11, but since the stopper 15 hits first on the crossbeam 14B, any possible uplift more than it is prevented. In brief, any displacement of the cleaning brush is checked, thereby preventing any collision of the arm 9 with the footboard 3.
