    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control the generation of heat which reverse flows into an outer case via a cooling fin by providing a heat insulating wall, which also operates as a heat insulating layer for insulating heat from the heat radiating fin against the inside of outer case. SOLUTION: Heat transferred to a cooling fin 8 from the lower surface of a power module 2 is radiated mainly at the heat radiating surface to the atmosphere through natural convection or forcible convection of cooling fin. Meanwhile, a part of heat transferred to the radiating fin 8 raises the temperature of air in the side of heat insulating wall 22, and the air in the heat insulating layer 23 freely moves through the upper and lower openings of an outer case 21. The air heated by the heat radiating fin 8 always absorbs external from the opening of the outer case 21 by the natural convection to become to exhaust air. The temperature of the heat insulating wall 22 in contact with the heat insulating layer 23 rises only up to the temperature of the heat insulating layer 23, so that the temperature rise of the outer case 21 for accommodating electrolytic capacitors 4, 10, control printed circuit board 26, power circuit printed circuit board 27 and signal wiring 29 or the like or restrained.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a control performance without regulating the mounting accuracy of a position detecting means in the control of a synchronous motor using the position detecting means. SOLUTION: In a method for controlling an electric motor when the position detecting means 5 is not mounted at a proper position to the synchronous motor 1 in a proper accuracy, a deviation arises in position information of the position detecting means 5 incorporated in a controller 11. Then, when the position detecting means 5 is not disposed at the proper position, the method includes a step of forming a control phase θdc by a position estimator 20 by operating the synchronous motor 1 without position sensor, and estimating the phase at output signal timing of the position detecting means 5. The method further includes a step of newly holding the estimated phase by inputting the estimated phase to a position information holder 23, tuning the position information of the position detecting means 5 incorporated in the controller 11, thereafter correcting an output of the position detecting means 5 according to information incorporated in the position information holder 23, and operating the synchronous motor 1.
