    • PURPOSE:To hot roll a steel strip continuously by joining both ends of the strips together while making a joining machine travel in the advancing direction of strip and absorbing the difference portion between the speed of joining machine and that of the strip at the inlet of a rolling mill by an accumulator. CONSTITUTION:A preceding steel strip 8 cut by a crop shear 3 is formed into a loop by an accumulator 21. Next, a steel strip 9 whose end is clamped and cut by a joining machine 20 is joined to the strip 8 while it is running. At that time, the machine 20 travels at a speed slower than the inlet-side speed of a group of rolling mills 4 to reduce the quantity of strip stored in the accumulator 21. After joining the strips together, the machine 20 travels in the direction opposite to the rolling direction to prepare the next joining. In this way, the strips can be joined together while running, and the continuous hot rolling can be performed.

    • PURPOSE:To eliminate the off gauge at the leading and trailing ends at the cold rolling and make biting easy by rolling the leading or trailing end of a strip thiner than the normal plate thickness portion in the central part in the longitudinal direction. CONSTITUTION:With a hot strip finishing plant 9, the pass of the leading end of the material is detected with a rolling load detector 7 and the screw down device 8 of the F6 stand is moved upward according to the preset time relation, whereby the roll gap is increased. As a result, the plate thickness at the leading end of the strip becomes subsequently thicker. In the central part in the longitudinal direction, rolling of a constant plate thickness is accomplished. When the trailing end of the strip passes the F1 stand, this is detected with a rolling load detector 6 to lower the screw-down device 8 of the F6 stand and decrease the roll gap. The plate thickness at the trailing end of the strip will then become gradually thinner. This strip coil makes biting to cold rolling rolls good and enables the strip of the plate thickness uniform in the lengthwise direction to be obtained.

    • PURPOSE:To improve the responsiveness of the roll-gap-control in the broadside rolling mill on purpose to improve the accuracy of broadside rolling work for the slab, by screw-setting the female screw rotated by the hydraulic cylinder, to the reducing screw interlocked to the motor, and by rapidly moving forward or backward the reducing screw. CONSTITUTION:When the roll gap is settled correspondingly to the breadth of sheet, the motor 13 is started, the wheel 8 is rotated, the reducing screw 5 is moved forward or backward through the feather key 7, and the roll gap is adjested. When only one roll 2 is to be moved, the clutch 15 is disconnected and only the motor 13 is actuated. When a small change in the roll gap is to be given rapidly, the female screw 6 is rotated by the hydraulic cylinder through the rack 22 so as to move the reducing screw 5 forward or backward for changing the roll gap; hereupon, the motor 13 can be left stopped. The screw down devices on the operating side and driving side can be controlled by a single position controller.
