    • PURPOSE: To obtain an ingot with no segregation by simultaneously melting a pipe filled with alloying elements into a pipe having the same length as an electrode and a pipe consisting essentially of a sponge metal-base compact while putting partition plates at prescribed intervals or below in a vacuum arc remelting furnace.
      CONSTITUTION: Zr powder 10 is mixed with Sn powder 11, Fe powder 12 and Cr powder 13 in a mixer 14, and the mixture is charged into a metallic mold 15 and pressed to form a pellet 16. This pellet 16 is put in a Zr pipe 4. The pellet 16 is sealed with a Zr sealing plate 17, and the stages are repeated to have the same length pipe 4 as the electrode. The pipe 4 is then welded to the compact electrode consistiig essentially of the sponge metal and set in a vacuum arc remelting furnace. The pipe 4 and the electrode are melted by supplying electric current between the furnace and the electrode to obtain an ingot.
