    • PURPOSE:To surely remove paper noise having almost the same level as that of a character by dividing a character into a character area and a non-character area, outputting a character binarizing signal in the case of the character area, or outputting a white picture element signal in the case of the non-character area. CONSTITUTION:A matrix arithmetic circuit M1 outputs '1' (white) when the center picture element of a matrix consisting of 3 X 3 picture elements e.g. is '1' (white) or all the picture elements surrounding the center picture element are '1' (white). A matrix arithmetic circuit M2 executes black picture element blocking processing, a matrix arithmetic circuit M3 executes black density deciding processing and a matrix arithmetic circuit M4 executes character effective area deciding processing. A matrix arithmetic circuit M5 executes correction processing. A selector 2b in an output part 2 is operated through a character area deciding signal 6, and in the case of the character area, a character binarizing signal 5a is outputted after picture element unit noise processing. In the case of the non-character area, white data are outputted as a character binarizing signal 5b after noise processing. Consequently, comparatively large noise similar to the size of each character size can be surely removed.

    • PURPOSE:To input a picture with the use of a picture input means having a smaller input surface than the size of an original picture by dividing the picture larger than the input screen of a picture input means into plural pieces, inputting them for plural times, then coupling them so as to be a single picture on a picture storing means. CONSTITUTION:When an original picture 31 is inputted, the original picture 31 is divided into two pictures 32 and 33, and inputted. The picture 32 is that obtained by adding a picture 31-2 by a width W to a picture 31-1, and the picture 33 is that obtained by adding the picture 31-1 by the width W to the picture 31-2, and the pictures 32 and 33 has the smaller sizes than an input screen 34 of a scanner 1. Further the inputted pictures 32 and 33 are coupled to a single picture on the picture storing means. Thus by using the picture input means having the smaller input screen than the size of the original picture, the picture can be inputted.
