    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a high quality polymer material to identify materials having a largely high dielectric constant and a relatively high dielectric breakdown strength, and to be used for a polymer-based electronic device. SOLUTION: In one aspect, the present invention is a method for increasing the dielectric breakdown strength of the polymer. The method comprises a step of providing the polymer, and a step of contacting the surface of the polymer with gas plasma in the reaction chamber under the predetermined plasma condition. The polymer is selected from the group consisting of polymers having a glass transition temperature of at least about 150°C, and polymer composite materials comprising at least one organic component. The contact with the gas plasma is conducted for a sufficient time to incorporate additional chemical functionality to the surface region of the polymer film to provide the treated polymer.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-temperature film capacitor exhibiting high permittivity, high break strength and excellent mechanical strength.
      SOLUTION: This capacitor comprises a substrate layer, a first electrode layer disposed on the substrate layer, and a first dielectric layer disposed on the electrode layer. The dielectric layer comprises a polymeric material having an elongation ≤ about 5%. In another embodiment, the capacitor includes a substrate layer having cellulose triacetate, and the substrate layer has tensile strength ≥ about 300 psi. The first electrode layer is disposed on the substrate layer, and the first dielectric layer is disposed on the electrode layer. The dielectric layer has a polymer material having an elongation ≤ about 5%.
