    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of deposition of a metallic coating using an atomized spray. SOLUTION: A method of coating a metal substrate (17) such as the components in second and third stages of gas turbine engines is provided, in order to increase the oxidation and corrosion resistance of the metal substrate (17) under high temperature operating conditions. The method includes the steps of: forming a powdered mixture of a high-melt superalloy or MCrAlY component (14), where M includes Fe, Ni and/or Co, and a low-melt component (15) containing about 2 to 5 wt.% silicon, boron or hafnium; applying the powdered mixture to the surface of the metal substrate (17) at room temperature by using an atomized spray to form a uniform surface coating; and then heating the coated substrate surface under vacuum conditions to a temperature in the range of about 1,900°F to 2,275°F to obtain a uniform coating composition (19) providing oxidation resistance to the underlying substrate. The apparatus also generates an electric arc to produce an arc projection that encompasses the first laser beam projection and travels with the first laser beam projection along the joint region to form a molten weld pool. In addition, the apparatus generates a pair of lateral laser beams that produce lateral laser beams projections that are encompassed by the arc projection and are spaced laterally apart from the joint region to interact with portions of the weld pool that solidify to define weld toes of the weld joint.
