    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To apply a voltage which has a larger potential difference than before to a capacitive load without making respective elements, constituting a driving circuit, high in breakdown voltage.
      SOLUTION: A driving circuit is equipped with an output line OUTCY which is connected to one end of the load 20, a 1st signal line OUTAY for supplying a 1st potential higher than a reference potential, a 2nd signal line OUTBY for supplying a 2nd potential lower than the reference potential and a 3rd potential further lower than the reference potential, and a potential supply circuit 30 which is connected to the 1st signal line and supplies a 4th potential (-Vy) lower than the reference potential to the 1st signal line; and the 4th potential lower than the reference potential is supplied from the potential supply circuit to the 1st signal line to hold the 2nd signal line connected to the 1st signal line through a capacitor at the 3rd potential, which is applied to the capacitive load from the 2nd signal line.

SOLUTION: The drive circuit comprises a 1st signal line (OUTA) for supplying potential to one end of a capacitive load; a 1st switch element for supplying the 1st potential to the lst signal line; a 1st drive circuit for driving the 1st switch element; and a 2nd signal line (OUTB) for supplying the 2nd potential different from the 1st potential to one end of the capacitive load.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the power consumption of a drive circuit of a flat display device without using a high-performance element nor a new component.
      SOLUTION: There is provided a drive circuit which has a switch circuit capable of outputting scan pulses and sustain pulses to one end of a capacitive load being a display means and after the switch circuit of the drive circuit is turned ON, a power switch circuit is turned ON which supplies a potential from a power line to a 1st signal line for supplying a 1st potential to one end of the capacitive load through the drive circuit and a 2nd signal line for supplying a 2nd potential different from the 1st potential to the one end of the capacitive load through the drive circuit to supply a current while the ON resistance of the switch circuit of the drive circuit becomes sufficiently low. Consequently, loss of current due to the switch circuit of the drive circuit is decreased to reduce the power consumption.
