    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form recessed grooves in respective arrangement positions of display electrode pairs of a front-side substrate, to arrange display electrodes along the inside wall surfaces of the recessed grooves, and also to form surface discharge between the display electrode pairs into hollow cathode discharge.
      SOLUTION: In a luminescent cell area formed in respective intersection parts between a plurality of discharge electrode pairs and a plurality of address electrodes, the recessed grooves are formed at the respective arrangement positions of the display electrode pairs of the front-side substrate so that the groove width is gradually reduced in the depth direction of each groove; at least a part of each display electrode is arranged along the inside wall surface of the recessed groove; and, when surface discharge is generated between the display electrode pairs, hollow cathode discharge is generated in the case where one-side display electrode of the display electrode pair is a negative electrode.
