摘要： PURPOSE:To accurately observe whether the alignment state of optical fibers is proper or not and to improve the observation accuracy by setting a microscope in focus on the ridge part atop a mirror plate. CONSTITUTION:Two optical fiber mount bases 5A and 5B face each other at an interval and the mirror plate 6 is equipped with two mirror surface parts 8A and 8B which slant downward from the ridge part 7 of the top to both sides of the ridge part 7. The mirror plate 6 is interposed between the adjacent parts of both optical fiber mount bases 5A and 5b, and while the end parts 3A and 3B of a couple of optical fibers are arranged on the respective optical fiber mount bases opposite each other, the images of the end surfaces 4A and 4B of those optical fibers are projected on both mirror surface parts 8A and 8B of the mirror plate 6 respectively; and the optical fiber end surface images (a) and (b) projected on both mirror surface parts 8A and 8B are brought into contact with the ridge part 7 of the mirror plate 6, and the relative position between the couple of optical fiber is observed based on the optical fiber end surface images (a) and (b) contacting the ridge part 7. Consequently, whether or not the alignment state is proper is precisely observed in both a vertical and a horizontal directions simultaneously.

摘要： PURPOSE:To stabilize a slip function and to improve the fusion splicing of a core end surface by clamping an optical fiber by a fixed contact piece and a movable contact piece which is energized by a spring on two slide blocks. CONSTITUTION:Two couples of clamping members 141-144 are stood on the blocks 12 and 13 arrayed on a pedestal 11 in a slipping state; and the fixed contact piece 15 is provided on the block 12 and the movable pressing contact piece 16 which is energized by the spring 17 is provided on the block 13. The optical fiber 7 is slipped in between the clamping members 14 and a core end part 9 is fused to the opposite end part. At this time, the force for pressing the fiber 7 is set larger than the frictional force between the pedestal 11 and blocks 12 and 13 and the frictional force between the member 14 and contact pieces 15 and 16. Therefore, even when the external diameter of the fiber 7 is slightly different, the abutting force of the fiber end parts is made invariably contact by slipping and the fusing operation is performed excellently.

摘要： PURPOSE:To prevent a fiber from projecting or curving while reducing the external diameter of a connection part, by using a prepreg tube obtained by stranding a fibers in a tube shape and impregnating it with resin as a protective body, and covering the connection part with the tube and then curing the resin. CONSTITUTION:As the protective body for the connection part, a prepreg tube 5 obtained by forming the glass fiber, etc., in the tube shape and impregnating the tube-shaped body with thermosetting resin such as unsaturated polyester resin in an unset or half-set state is used. Both coating layers 2a and 2b of connection parts of coated optical fibers 1a and 1b are sheathed with said tube 5, which is drawn to both sides to an airtight state; and the resin is set by heat or light. Consequently, the prepreg tube 5 has superior tensile strength and is fibrous, so the external diameter of the connection part is decreased and the adhesive strength is high. Consequently, the contraction of the coating layers is suppressed and the projection and cuvature of the optical fiber are therefore prevented, reducing transmission loss.

The resulting fiber is incorporated into an optical cable. When tension is applied, the elastic member is deformed inward in the radial direction as if it is crushed, so the connected part is deformed inward as if it sinks. As a result, the connected part receives less tension and the fragile connected part is protected.

摘要： PURPOSE:To relieve residual stress, etc. in each terminal of a covered optical fiber by providing a heat history to the plastic covering layer of the covered optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber 1 is successively covered with a primary covering layer 2, a buffer layer 3 and a secondary plastic covering layer 4 to form a covered optical fiber. By heating terminals of such optical fibers with a heater, the layers 4 are shrunk. At the treated terminals the layers are stripped, and the exposed optical fibers 1, 1 are melted and connected to each other. For example, optical fibers each having 125mum outside diameter covered with a buffer layer of silicone rubber having 400mum outside diameter and a secondary nylon covering layer having 600mum outside diameter are treated under heating under prescribed conditions and adhered to each other by arc discharge. The connected part is reinforced with a silicone adhesive 8 by means of a V-groove connector 7.

摘要： PURPOSE:To dissolve and reinforce cracks, which are generated in parts of optical fibers where coatings are eliminated, to subject optical fibers to the reinforcing treatment, by soaking these parts in a surface treatment liquid consisting of a surface active agent and a corrosive solution which dissolves optical fibers. CONSTITUTION:Coatings of optical fibers 1A and 1B where clad parts are covered with a silicone resin are eliminated inparts 2A and 2B. Parts 2A and 2B are quartz glass fiber cores, and they are connected with arc discharge by fusion-fixing to form a fusion-fixing connection part 3. When coating materials are eliminated or parts 2A and 2B are connected, creadks are generated on surfaces of parts 2A and 2B, and foreign matters are stuck to them. Parts 2A and 2B and the connection part 3 are soaked in a surface treatment liquid 4, where 1% surface active agent is added to 8,6mol/l hydrofluoric acid which dissolves optical fiber cores, for several minutes and are dried. By this surface treatment, cracks are reinforced, and foreign matters are eliminated to reinforce optical fibers.

The connection part 5 subjected to the reinforcing treatment is taken out to the outside of the liquid bath 7 and is washed. The connection part 5 is stored in a closed in a closed vessel 8 provided with an air charging hole 9 and an air discharging hole 10 and is brought into contact with a clean air current which is flowed from the air charging hole 9 to the air discharging hole 10 through the vessel 8. The surface of the connection part 5 is dried, and the connection part 5 is taken out to the outside of the vessel 8 and is coated with a silicone resin or the like.
