    • PURPOSE: To suppress the strain of coated fiber ribbons to a lower level and to lessen the transmission loss of the coated fiber ribbons by making the coated fiber ribbons movable within a groove in a direction where the strain is relieved when a cable is bent in such a manner as to reduce the twist applied on the coated fiber ribbons and the bending in the direction of curving the side edges of the ribbons within the ribbon surfaces. CONSTITUTION: The coated fiber ribbons (coated optical fiber ribbons) 15 are housed in the groove 13 of a bar-shaped member 11 with the groove having the groove 13 of an S-Z type. The groove 13 is one piece and the depth of the groove is larger than the radius of the bar-shaped member 11 with the groove. Tension members 21 are embedded by one piece each on both sides of the groove 13. The coated fiber ribbons 15 are housed by directing the ribbon surfaces toward the groove bottom in the central parts between the inverting parts of the groove and by directing the side edges of the ribbons toward the groove bottom in the inverting parts of the groove. All the coated fiber ribbons exist nearer the groove bottom side than two pieces of the tension members 21 in the central parts between the inverting parts of the groove 13.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent an adverse effect on the transmission characteristic of an optical fiber tape from occurring even when the cross-sectional shape of a lengthy body is deformed by modifying the cross-sectional shape of it. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber unit 4 formed by housing the optical fiber tape 3 in the housing groove 2 of the lengthy body 1 is cabled by arranging the bottom plate 5 of the lengthy body 1 in the periphery of a tension member 6 so that the aperture part 7 of the housing groove 2 can be located at the outside on a tension member 6 side, and the bottom plane 8 of the bottom plate 5 of the lengthy body 1 is formed at a recessed plane protruding over the inside with the same curvature as that of the outer periphery of the tension member 6. Also, the internal plane 9 of the bottom plate 5 of the housing groove 2 of the lengthy body 1 is formed in a recessed plane in which the center part in the width direction of it is recessed than both outsides, and the bottom plate 5 can be deformed so as to be protruded to the inside by pushing by the tension member 6 of the lengthy body 1.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent a loss from increasing when a cable is bent by rotating a storing member and mitigating a compression distortion when the cable is bent. CONSTITUTION:As to the optical fiber cable formed by spirally winding the storing member 23 for storing plural wide tape-like coated optical fiber 28 laminated in a groove 12 around the outer peripheral surface of a core material 19, the bending rigidity of the storing member 23 in a direction for bending the tape-like coated optical fiber 28 in a width direction is made larger than the bending rigidity in the direction for bending the coated optical fiber 28 in the thickness direction, and also, the storing member 23 can be rotated around the outer circumference of the core material 19. When the cable is bent, the storing member 23 for storing the coated tape-like optical fiber 28 is rotated and the compression distortion applied on the optical fiber especially near the side edge part of the coated optical fiber 28 is mitigated by the rotation of the storing member 23, so that the increase of the loss generated when the cable is bent is prevented.

    • PURPOSE:To accurately observe whether the alignment state of optical fibers is proper or not and to improve the observation accuracy by setting a microscope in focus on the ridge part atop a mirror plate. CONSTITUTION:Two optical fiber mount bases 5A and 5B face each other at an interval and the mirror plate 6 is equipped with two mirror surface parts 8A and 8B which slant downward from the ridge part 7 of the top to both sides of the ridge part 7. The mirror plate 6 is interposed between the adjacent parts of both optical fiber mount bases 5A and 5b, and while the end parts 3A and 3B of a couple of optical fibers are arranged on the respective optical fiber mount bases opposite each other, the images of the end surfaces 4A and 4B of those optical fibers are projected on both mirror surface parts 8A and 8B of the mirror plate 6 respectively; and the optical fiber end surface images (a) and (b) projected on both mirror surface parts 8A and 8B are brought into contact with the ridge part 7 of the mirror plate 6, and the relative position between the couple of optical fiber is observed based on the optical fiber end surface images (a) and (b) contacting the ridge part 7. Consequently, whether or not the alignment state is proper is precisely observed in both a vertical and a horizontal directions simultaneously.
