Since the inside of the electrode 9 is formed with a light receiving surface, and since the layer 3 has a wider area than the inside of the electrode 9, a light incident to the receiving surface is effectively absorbed to the layer 3. Thus, it is disposed so that the peripheral edge of the layer 3 exists between the inside and the outside of the electrode 9, the component having slow light response is removed, the incident light is effectively used to provide a high output current.

Thus, the image pickup period can be shortened.
