    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the power consumption of a drive circuit of a flat display device without using a high-performance element nor a new component.
      SOLUTION: There is provided a drive circuit which has a switch circuit capable of outputting scan pulses and sustain pulses to one end of a capacitive load being a display means and after the switch circuit of the drive circuit is turned ON, a power switch circuit is turned ON which supplies a potential from a power line to a 1st signal line for supplying a 1st potential to one end of the capacitive load through the drive circuit and a 2nd signal line for supplying a 2nd potential different from the 1st potential to the one end of the capacitive load through the drive circuit to supply a current while the ON resistance of the switch circuit of the drive circuit becomes sufficiently low. Consequently, loss of current due to the switch circuit of the drive circuit is decreased to reduce the power consumption.

      SOLUTION: In a sustain period for making display cells emit light by repeating discharges between 1st and 2nd electrodes which are constituted of two or more pairs arranged parallel to one another, the discharges are repeated by applying a sustain pulse of a 1st voltage, and at the last sustain pulse or the sustain pulse just before the last sustain pulse in the sustain period, a 2nd voltage higher than the 1st voltage is applied to the 1st or 2nd electrode, and also when the sustain pulse of the 2nd voltage is applied, the difference in discharge characteristic is relaxed by making the potential of a 3rd electrode corresponding to at least one kind of a phosphor layer among the two or more 3rd electrodes arranged in the direction almost orthogonal to the 1st and 2nd electrodes different from the potential of the 3rd electrode corresponding to other phosphor layer, and the drive margin is thereby expanded.
