    • PURPOSE:To utilize one kind of mechanism for two kinds of operation and to evade a component breakage accident by allowing a butting plate to penetrate the matching liquid coating hole of a matching liquid supplier vertically and providing a descent position adjusting means for the butting plate to a butting plate moving device, and combining it with the butting plate mutually. CONSTITUTION:When the end surface gap between optical fibers F1 and F2 is set, a cam 13 is rotated by a motor 12 in a specific direction to elevate the butting plate 3 through the cam 13 until its 1st front end part 3a moves to the butting position of an optical fiber end surface, which is allowed to but on the front end part 3a. In this case, when the optical fiber end surface is coated with matching liquid L, the projection piece 3d of the butting plate 3 is brought into contact with the cam surface 14 of the cam 13 at a point P1 as shown in a figure, and then the slit 9 at the 1st front end part 3a of the butting plate 3 is fitted in the matching liquid coating hole 6 of the matching liquid supplier 4 to stick the matching liquid L on the 1st front end part 3a through the slit 9 by a specific amount. On the other hand, when the end surface gap is set without applying the matching liquid L to the optical fiber end surface, the projection pieces 3d of the butting plate 3 is brought into contact with the cam surface 14 of the cam 13 at a point P2 as shown in a figure (a) and the slit 9 at the 1st front end part 3d is fitted in the matching liquid coating hole 6, so that the matching liquid L does not stick on the 1st front end part 3a of the butting plate 3.
