    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer powder with polyamide, the use of this polymer powder in a molding process, and moldings produced from this polymer powder. SOLUTION: A layer-by-layer process is provided where regions of the polymer powder layer are selectively melted and adhered via the introduction of electromagnetic energy, and after cooling, the regions are then solidified and can be removed in the form of moldings from the powder bed. The selectivity of the layer-by-layer process may be achieved by way of the application of susceptors, absorbers, inhibitors, or masks, or by way of focused introduction of energy. The polymer powder is provided which is produced from a polyamide having a medium-sized lactam ring as a base and which can omit costly steps of the extraction of remaining monomers from the polyamide. A stack of remaining monomers on an optical structural member is largely avoided, and an assembling process for RP/RM processes becomes safer and more stable. Structural member properties, particularly those of surfaces, are extremely good, and are more reproducible than those when using conventional powders. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
