    • PURPOSE:To surely discriminate a defective can by updating the reference data according to the updated data and also updating upper and lower limit values with the prescribed range with respect to the reference data and continuing discrimination of propriety according to the upper and lower limit values of the reference data till the next update time. CONSTITUTION:The temperature at a sensor spot 11 of a weld zone is detected by an infrared temperature sensor 10 and its signal is converted into a prescribed voltage signal by a temperature-voltage converter 12 and the difference of AC input is converted into the prescribed voltage output with an input part 21. It is converted into a digital signal with an A/D conversion part 22 and a sub-CPU 23 holds the data for either cans based on the number of measured data preset by a main CPU 24 and a data updating period and an average value of these data is calculated and a reference data pattern for decision is made out. The upper limit value and the lower limit value of decision are subjected to arithmetic processing for every data sampling on the upper and lower limit range set by the main CPU 24 with respect to the reference data pattern and the propriety of the can is discriminated by whether or not the measured data of the welded can are included in the range of the upper and lower limit values.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the accuracy of determination of welding quality in the edge portion of a can drum, where the temperature change caused by welding is large. SOLUTION: In the method for determining the welding quality in the weld zone of the can drum, whether or not the measured pattern obtained by measuring the can to be determined is within the allowable range determined by the upper limit value and the lower limit value of a reference pattern is judged. When the measured pattern is within the allowable range of the reference pattern, the welding quality in the weld zone of the can drum is determined to be good. When the measured pattern is not within the allowable range of the reference pattern, the welding quality in the weld zone of the can drum is determined to be bad (step S8). In this case, when the measured pattern is not within the allowable range of the reference pattern at the edge portion of the can drum, the measured pattern is slightly shifted relative to the reference pattern in the required longitudinal direction of the can drum, and the redetermination of the welding quality at the edge portion of the can drum is carried out by determining whether or not the measured pattern is within the allowable range of the reference pattern (steps S10 to S12).
