    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medical waste processing apparatus and a processing method for transforming infectious medical waste into non-infections industrial waste and reducing volume to reduce processing cost.SOLUTION: There is provided an infectious medical waste processing apparatus which consists of: a thermal decomposition processing section which thermally decomposes infectious medical waste into carbide under oxygen-free or low oxygen atmosphere by using an electric heater 22 and heating means by microwave irradiation from a microwave irradiation port 24; and a thermal decomposition gas processing section which purifies thermal decomposition gas generated by thermal decomposition by an oxidation catalyst. The thermal decomposition processing section comprises: a waste input chamber 1 into which medical waste is input and which temporarily houses the waste; a thermal decomposition chamber 2 which thermally decomposes medical waste from the waste input chamber into carbide; a carbide housing hopper 3 which temporarily houses the generated carbide; and a carbide housing box 4 which takes out carbide to the outside. There is also provided an infectious medical waste processing method using the processing apparatus.
