    • PURPOSE:To obtain the ornaments constituted of a golden color tone film substantially consisting of titanium nitride and a gray color tone film by irradiating a part of the surface of a black color tone film substantially consisting of titanium, nitrogen, carbon, and oxygen, with a laser beam. CONSTITUTION:An atmosphere contg. nitrogen, oxygen and carbon dioxide is formed in a vacuum vessel. Metal titanium is thereafter bombarded by an electron beam and is heated to evaporate the titanium. A DC voltage is then impressed between an evaporating source of the metal titanium which is an anode and a base material 1 which is a cathode, and an ion current is passed to form the black color tone film 2 consisting of the titanium, nitrogen, carbon, and oxygen on a base material 1. The base material 1 formed with the black color tone film 2 is taken out and the black color tone film 2 is irradiated with the laser according to the specified patterns on the black color tone film by using a YAG laser device. The part irradiated with the laser constitutes the golden color tone film 3 and the multicolored ornaments having the beautiful black color tone and golden color tone are obtd. The multicolored ornaments having the beautiful three tones of the black color tone, the gray color tone and the golden color tone are obtd. by changing the output of the laser and irradiating the laser.

    • PURPOSE:To produce a superior ornament capable of withstanding long time use by forming a hard film of a color similar to that of a coated film by a dry plating method on the position between a base material and the coated film at the time of producing the ornament in which the coated film is applied to the base material. CONSTITUTION:For example, a watchband 11 made of stainless steel is put into a vacuum tank in an ion plating apparatus and the inside of this vacuum tank is evacuated to carry out required cleaning, and then, a gaseous mixture of argon, nitrogen, and ethylene is ionized and allowed to react with similarly ionized titanium, by which a hard film consisting of a brown titanium carbonitride film 12 of about 1.5mu film thickness is formed on the watchband 11. Subsequently, this watchband 11 is taken out from the vacuum tank and is subjected to electrostatic coating with an acrylic brown coating having a color tone similar to that of the brown titanium carbonitride film 12 and then to baking, by which a brown coated film 13 is formed. By this method, the brown watchband excellent in wear resistance and corrosion resistance and capable of long use in the attractive state can be obtained.

    • PURPOSE:To improve the efficiency of film formation and to form a uniform film having high adhesiveness by disposing an arc discharge evaporation source in a rotating body. CONSTITUTION:A rotary shaft 11 at one end of the rotating body 2 of an approximately circular cylinderical shape in a vacuum vessel 1 is rotated by a motor 3 via a bearing 8 and the other end of the rotating body 2 is supported by a supporting base 9 and a roller 10 at the sliding contact point internally provided thereto. The negative bias from the base 9 and the roller 10 is impressed to the rotating body 2. On the other hand, the arc discharge evaporation source 4 is constituted by integrating an electrode 4a and a metal 4b to be evaporated. Cooling water from a water cooling copper tube 6 is introduced to the water path on the joint surfaces thereof, by which said electrode and metal are cooled. Small-sized objects 7 to be treated are put into the rotating body 2 and are brought into contact with the rotating body 2, by which the negative bias is impressed thereto. The metal 4b is then evaporated and ionized by utilizing the arc discharge, by which the thin films are formed on the surfaces of the objects 7. Since the metal 4b is not melted at this time, the positions and directions are freely settable according to conditions. The efficiency of the film formation is thus improved.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent the quality deterioration of a thin film formed on a work by forming a vacuum vessel of a vacuum forming device for thin films into a specific construction to prevent the intrusion of harmful moisture and gas into the vessel at the time of an exchanging, etc., of the work in the vessel. CONSTITUTION:The body 11a of the vacuum vessel 11 of the vacuum forming device for thin films by a vapor deposition, sputtering, or ion plating method is so constructed that said body can be largely opened and closed by a large door 12. A frame part 13a projecting outward is provided to the large door 12 and further, a slender small window 13 and small door 14 are installed thereto. An evaporating source 6 and a mechanism for supporting the work are provided in the vacuum vessel 11. A device 17 for replenishing an evaporating material is disposed in the evaporating source 6. The exchange operation can be carried out through the small window 13 without the need for opening the large door 12 to exchange the work if such device is used. The replenishment of the evaporating material can be made while the large door 12 is held closed. To use the small window/3, an inert gas is ejected from many small holes 16a of the pipe 16 provided to the inside wall of the body 11a to maintain the pressure in the vessel under the atmospheric pressure or above. The deterioration of the vapor deposited film by the oxygen and moisture contained in the air to be intruded into the vessel 11 is thereby prevented.
