      SOLUTION: The starting device is provided with a bottomed roughly cylindrically-shaped front cover 13. The front cover 13 supports a damper device for absorbing torque vibration generated at an engine side. The damper device is provided with a bottomed roughly cylindrically-shaped damper plate 50 fixed on a bottom part 13a of the front cover 13, a damper disk connected to a transmission mechanism side, and a damper spring for transmitting torque to the damper disk side from the damper plate 50 side. The damper spring is arranged to be laid along an inner circumference surface of a cylindrical part 13b of the front cover 13. A clearance 55 including a gap h with which the damper plate 50 can slide on the cylindrical part 13b is formed between an outer circumference surface of the cylindrical part 50b of the damper plate 50 and an inner circumference surface of the cylindrical part 13b of the front cover 13.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a starter improved in cooling performance of a friction plate, without causing an enlargement in the axial direction, the deterioration in controllability and the deterioration in durability, by arranging a cutout part in an outer friction plate and an inner friction plate. SOLUTION: Cooling oil is supplied to a second oil space S2 formed on the inner peripheral side of a hub member 29, and is also supplied to a first oil space S1 formed on the outer peripheral side of a drum member 22 via bypass oil passages A1 and A2. When the friction plate 21 rotates, the cooling oil respectively flows via the friction plate 21 to the second oil space S2 from the first oil space S1, and to the first oil space S1 from the second oil space S2 by inertia via a through-oil hole 29a of the hub member 29 and a though-oil hole 22a of the drum member 22 by a groove of a friction material 50 stuck to the inner friction plate 21b of the friction plate 21. Thus, the cooling performance of the starter 1 is improved by improving a flow of the cooling oil to the friction plate 21 without arranging the cutout part in the outer friction plate and the inner friction plate.
