    • PURPOSE:To prevent the local erosion of a protective tube and to enable the execution of continuous temperature measurement for a long time, by moving the protective tube upward and downward in a molten metal and by rotating the same around the axis in the longitudinal direction, on the occasion when a sensor for temperature measurement is dipped in the molten metal for measuring temperature. CONSTITUTION:A platinum-rhodium thermocouple is disposed inside a protective tube 1 whose main constituent is boride ceramics, and terminals of the thermocouple are connected to a meter by compensation conductors through the intermediary of a connection terminal box 5. At the time of dipping in a molten metal for measuring temperature, the protective tube 1 is moved upward and downward and rotated by a supporting device 6 which moves the protective tube 1 upward and downward and rotates it while supporting the terminal box 5 on the upper side of the protective tube 1. When the temperature of the molten metal is measured, molten slug floats much in the surface part of the molten metal and this part tends to be oxidized at high temperature. Therefore, erosion can be prevented by a means wherein the same position of the protective tube 1 is not located in the surface part of the molten metal for a long time. Thereby the local erosion of the protective tube is prevented and the execution of continuous temperature measurement for a long time is enabled.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain a DC electric furnace having a bottom electrode of long life by providing a contact pin made of sintered zirconium boride and a prepared unshaped refractory material filled in the lower part of the pin, and providing a connector to a power source at the lower end of the pin. CONSTITUTION:A bottom electrode 11 is engaged with the center of the bottom of a DC electric furnace, a cable 17 of the electrode 11 is connected to an electrode terminal 15, which is connected to a current collector 14 through a metal cooling air introduction tube 15, and a board 13 is provided directly above the plate 14. A plurality of contact pins 12 made of conductive sintered zirconium boride are connected to be supported to the plate 14 through the board 13, and surrounded by a steel case 19. A prepared unshaped refractory material 18 is filled inside the case 19, and bodies of the pins 12 are buried in the material 18. When steel and iron are melted, scrap, sub material are charged in a furnace, and the electrode 11 and a graphite electrode are energized therebetween. Then, an arc is generated between the graphite electrode and the scrap, and the scrap is melted.

    • PURPOSE:To enable the prolongation of the lifetime of a temperature measuring sensor, by a construction wherein a protective tube whose main constituent is alumina and an insulative tube are provided inside a protective tube whose main constituent is boride ceramics, and the sensor of which a heat-sensitive part in the tip end part is coated with platinum is disposed therein. CONSTITUTION:An internal protective tube 2 whose main constituent is alumina and an insulative tube 3 are provided inside a protective tube 1 whose main constituent is boride ceramics. Moreover, a platinum-rhodium thermocouple 5 fitted with platinum coating 4 is disposed at a temperature contact, and terminals of the thermocouple 5 are connected to a temperature recorder 7 by using compensation conductors 6. The protective tube 2 prevents the direct contact of the heat-sensitive part in the fore end of the thermocouple 5 with the protective tube 1 and also protects the entire thermocouple 5 from a reducing atmosphere by airtightness. In addition, the thermocouple 5 is protected by the platinum coating 4 for temperature measurement for a long time. By this construction, the deterioration of the thermocouple due to the reducing atmosphere is prevented and the execution of continuous temperature measurement for a long time is enabled.
