    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alumina-based sintered compact, particularly a double layer alumina sintered compact which has excellent chemical stability, mechanical properties and the like, and which can highly satisfies abrasion resistance, corrosion resistance and also fracture toughness in a single sintered compact, and to provide a method for producing the same and an alumina member comprising the same. SOLUTION: The double layer alumina sintered compact comprises a surface layer and an internal layer, wherein the surface layer comprises silicon, has the same crystal phase as the internal layer, and has an average crystal grain diameter which is different from that of the internal layer by 30% or more. There are also provided a method for producing the double layer alumina sintered compact and an alumina member comprising the same, the method comprising the steps of: applying a solution or slurry containing silicon elements to a surface of an alumina powder molded body or its temporarily sintered compact or impregnating the surface with the solution or slurry; and then performing final sintering. Thereby, it is possible to provide an alumina sintered compact which it highly satisfies different requirements for the surface and the inside of a material, a method for producing the same, and an alumina member comprising the same.
