    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle detecting system which can correctly recognize the direction of a vehicle at any time irrespective of the position of a portable machine. SOLUTION: The vehicle detecting system 1 includes: an electronic compass 22 for detecting the absolute azimuth as viewed from the portable machine 2; a gyro sensor 29 for detecting the posture of the portable machine 2; array antennas 33a, 33d for detecting the relative direction of the portable machine 2 as viewed from the vehicle 3, and measuring the radio wave strength Ea of arrival radio waves arriving at the vehicle 3; an electronic compass 32 for detecting the absolute azimuth as viewed from the vehicle 3; a vehicle control section 31 for arithmetically operating the absolute direction of the portable machine 2 as viewed from the vehicle 3, based on an information item of the relative direction of the portable machine 2 and an information item of the absolute azimuth as viewed from the vehicle 3; a portable machine control section 21 for arithmetically operating a relative direction of the vehicle 3 as viewed from the portable machine 2, based on information items of the absolute direction of the portable machine 2 as viewed from the vehicle 3, the absolute azimuth as viewed from the portable machine 2, and the posture of the portable machine 2; and a display section 25 for displaying the relative direction of the vehicle 3 on a three-dimensional basis.
