SOLUTION: This brake control device 1 is constituted for controlling an electric brake device for generating braking force by pressing a friction pad 16 to a disc rotor D by supplying an electric current to an electric motor 30. The brake control device 1 has an ECU 20 for operating the electric motor 30 based on a detecting result from a turning angle sensor 93 for detecting an operation quantity of the electric motor 30. The ECU 20 selectively switches ordinary return control for controlling a driving quantity of the electric motor 30 based on the detecting result of the turning angle sensor 93 when controlling to a separating state from a state of pressing the friction pad 16 to the disc rotor D and abnormal time return control for controlling the driving quantity of the electric motor 30 by time from when a current value of an input current supplied to the electric motor 30 becomes a predetermined value or less.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a product to prevent increase of temperature of a reduction gear mechanism for reducing drive force of an electric motor due to brake heat of a friction pad, improve operating properties and durability with excellent assembling properties, productivity, and maintainability, and compact caliper body, and improve degree of freedom of layout during situation of an electric display brake at a vehicle. SOLUTION: A forward and backward moving mechanism is provided to be moved forward and backward by the drive force of the electric motor 15, and the electric disc brake causes pressing and sliding of press members of friction pads 3 and 4 to generate a press force. The electric disc brake is provided such that braking is performed by pressing and sliding friction pads 3 and 4 against a disc rotor 1. The electric motor 15 is situated between the friction pads 3 and 4 and a reduction gear mechanism 17 to reduce the drive force of the electric motor 15, and to transmit it to the forward and backward moving mechanism.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide heat insulation measures, in which temperature rise in an electric motor, other electric parts, and reduction gear mechanism for reducing driving force of the electric motor is prevented to improve accuracy and durability in working, and to easily implement the heat insulation measures with simple structure and thereby to provide an electric disc brake with excellent assembly property, productivity and maintenability.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent disconnection of the harness of a load sensor due to the advancing and retreating of the ball screw shaft by providing a load sensor detecting the load of a friction pad on the ball screw shaft of a ball screw mechanism. SOLUTION: The ball screw mechanism 16 is constituted by screwing the ball screw shaft 38 generating the pressing force to the pressing member pressing friction pads 3, 4 to the ball screw nut 34 rotated by the electric motor 15. The load sensor 48 detecting the load of the friction pads 3, 4 is provided on the tip of the ball screw shaft 38. The length of the harness 50 of the load sensor 48 inserted in the hollow part 41 inside the ball screw shaft 38 is made to be more than the sum of the formed length of the hollow part 41 and the maximum moving length of the advancing and retreating of the ball screw shaft 38.
