摘要： A sheet conveying apparatus includes a sheet conveying part that conveys sheets; a detection part that outputs a signal according to a position of each sheet conveyed by the sheet conveying part in a lateral direction orthogonal to a conveying direction; a lateral shift part that shifts the conveyed sheet in the lateral direction; and a control part that controls an operation of the lateral shift part based on an output of the detection part. Then, after lateral shift operation is ended by the lateral shift part, detection is performed again by the detection part, and based on a detection result thereof, the control part controls an operation of the lateral shift part so that the conveyed sheet is shifted again in the lateral direction.

The size decision means is composed of at least one original existence detection means arranged at a specified position in the subscanning direction of the original platen and outputting information as to whether an original exists at the specified position and a means for deciding the size of the original placed on the original platen on the basis of individual output signals from the image read-in means.
