    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rail stretcher that can widen an interval between rails without having an adverse effect on other rails extending side by side and without using a large-scale heavy machine, and an inter-rail extension method.SOLUTION: A rail stretcher 1 includes: a scaffolding 11 having a height equal to or higher than the height of rails, and used so as to be fixed to sleepers; and a gauge expansion mechanism part detachably fixed to the scaffolding 11, and expanding a rail gauge by moving respective rails from the inside of the two rails to the outside. The gauge expansion mechanism part includes: two hydraulic cylinders 13, 13 provided with rail-catch parts 13c for catching the rails at the tip of a piston 13b extended and contracted at least by hydraulic pressure; and a hydraulic cylinder installation base 12 detachably mounted on an upper part of the scaffolding 11, and provided with two hydraulic cylinder installation parts for installing the rail-catch parts 13c, 13c of the two hydraulic cylinders 13, 13 toward the outside.
