    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure the subsidence of ground on the bottom face of sea in a reclaimed land continuously by disposing a rod magnet having a nonmagnetic plate vertically on the bottom of sea, repeating measurement using upper and lower two point magnetic field strength detectors disposed on a nonmagnetic vessel while shifting the vessel inch by inch, measuring the water level through a water gauge, measuring the draft on the vessel and correcting the draft with a value from the detector. SOLUTION: A permanent rod magnet 3 having a nonmagnetic plate 2 is disposed vertically on the bottom of sea. The magnetic field generated therefrom is measured using a set or more of upper and lower differential detectors 4, 5 disposed vertically, while spaced apart from each other, on a nonmagnetic vessel. Output from the detector 5 is then divided by the output from the detector 4 to obtain a detection value. Measurement is repeated while shifting the vessel S inch by inch and a maximum measurement is expressed in terms of depth value. Since the vessel S moves up and down with respect to the ground due to a tide, water level is measured through a water gauge 16 and the value detected through detector is corrected with a draft measured on the vessel S.
