The adjustment body includes a surface wall via which the adjustment body abuts against the power source for influencing the preload force. The radius of the surface wall changes continuously and strictly monotonically within an adjustment angle range about the pivot axis. The control curve 39 has the maximum 42, the minimum 43 and the transition zone 46 having a substantially constant distance from the shaft 13 of the hook 12 therebetween. The supplementary guides (21, 16) have an energy accumulating device (21) to give pre-stress to the pivot guide of the face plate (2) against the support plate (5) in a direction from the operating position to the half folding intermediate position. An attenuation element (21) of the supplementary guides (21, 16) attenuates pivotal movement of the face plate (2) with respect to the support plate (5). As a result, the sewing machine can be easily displaced between the operating position and the folding position.
