    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing in one step a secondary or tertiary amine from an alcohol and a primary or secondary amine in the presence of an inexpensive catalyst easily preparable and separable from products. SOLUTION: The method for producing the amine is characterized by reacting an alcohol represented by formula (1): R 1 OH (wherein, R 1 is an organic group having a carbon atom at a site bound to the oxygen atom in the formula) with an amine represented by formula (2): R 2 R 3 NH (wherein, R 2 , R 3 are each identically or differently H or an organic group having a carbon atom at a site bound to the nitrogen atom in the formula; at least one of R 2 and R 3 is an organic group having a carbon atom at a site bound to the carbon atom in the formula; R 2 , R 3 may be bound to each other to form a ring together with the adjacent nitrogen atom), in the presence of an alumina-carried silver catalyst and an acid to obtain the amine represented by formula (3): R 2 R 3 NR 1 .
