    • PURPOSE:To obtain an ingot having a good surface characteristic by disposing refractories to the meniscus part of the molten metal surface of a continuous casting device for a thin sheet and disposing electromagnetic stirrers to the upper part of the molten metal surface thereby forming solidified shells under the molten metal surface and maintaining the uniform temp. of a molten metal. CONSTITUTION:The refractories 10, 10' are disposed to the meniscus part of the surface of the molten metal 4 poured from a tundish 5 into the space formed of water-cooled casting drums 1, 1' and stationary gates 2, 2' so that the solidified shells grow from below the meniscus. Since the molten metal 4 is stirred by using the electromagnetic stirrers 9, 9', the temp. of the molten metal 4 is made uniform and the solidification on the molten metal surface is prevented; at the same time, the fluctuation of the molten metal surface is suppressed by the refractories 10, 10'.

    • PURPOSE:To provide a titled device which prevents the leakage of a molten metal, allows the easy stripping of a solidified material and produces a stable and non-defective thin sheet in continuous casting of the thin sheet by using opposed water-cooling drums by interposing and supplying continuously L- or T-shaped thin elastic metallic strips between the ends of the water-cooling drums and stationary gates. CONSTITUTION:The thin elastic metallic strips 7 having the L- or T-shaped section are interposed to te respective surface ends of the water-cooling drums 1, 1' which face horizontally each other and rotate in the directions opposite from each other in a manner as to be wound on said drums. Said strips are pressed to the stationary gastes 2 as well and are continuously supplied in synchronization with the rotation of the drums 1, 1'. The leakage of the molten metal is thoroughly prevented by the elasticity with the shape of the strips 7. The stripping of the solidified metal flowing to the strips 7 is made easy and the thin metallic strip 3 is produced stably as the non-defective product.

    • PURPOSE:To provide a continuous casting device which enables stable continuous casting without spoiling the characteristic of a billet by the constitution in which stationary gates are oscillatably disposed and the solidified shells formed by the wall surfaces thereof can be stripped as far as possible. CONSTITUTION:This continuous casting device consists of main constituting members including water cooled casting drums 1, 1' for casting a thin billet 3, stationary gates 2, 2' for preventing leakage of the molten metal 4 between the drums 1 and 1' a tundish 5 for supplying the molten metal 4 such as a molten steel at a constant rate, etc. The molten metal 4 is poured into the space formed of the drums 1, 1' and the gates 2, 2' and is cooled by the surfaces of the drums 1, 1'. The solidified shells formed in such a way are united to form a billet 3. Each gate 2 is formed of a refractory material 8 such as SiN and is so constituted that the gate can be preheated from the rear side and can also be heated even during casing operation. The gate 2 has a mechanism for lateral oscillation using a hydraulic cylinder 11. Such gates are pressed under specified face pressure to the end faces of the drums 1, 1' and are moved laterally to strip the solidified materials formed on the surfaces of the gates 2. The stripped materials are carried away downward together with the solidified shells on the surfaces of the drums 1, 1'.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent leakage of a molten from the end of a billet and to cast stably the billet by controlling the heating areas in the upper part of stationary gates pressed to both end faces of two water-cooling rolls and the cooling areas in the lower part according to the thickness of the billet and the radius of the water-cooling rolls. CONSTITUTION:The upper parts of the refractory materials 7 on the front surfaces of stationary gates 2, 2' are heated to a high temp. by electric heaters 8 at the rear side and the lower parts are cooled by the cooling water passing through the inside of water cooling chillers 9 at the rear side. When a molten metal 4 is poured into the space formed of water cooling rolls 1, 1' and the gates 2, 2', the molten metal 4 is cooled by the rolls 1, 1' to form a billet 3. The position of the chillers 9 in the lower parts of the stationary gates is so controlled as to have the distance (l) satisfying the equation I where the distance between the neutral point of the water cooling rolls and the top end of the chillers 9 is designated as l(mm.), the radius of the casting rolls as R(mm.) and the thickness of the billet as t(mm.) thereby controlling the formation of the solidified metal on the wall surfaces of the stationary gates.
