    • PURPOSE:To perform a steady and high-precise quantitative determination of gas concentration irrespective of the size of a capacity of a molten metal, by a method wherein a measurement is conducted by sucking and collecting gas in the molten metal through rapid diffusion and emission of the gas by spraying inactive gas. CONSTITUTION:A high-speed nozzle 5, which partially blows inactive gas into a steel bath, is installed, the nozzle 5 being provided with an annular nozzle 3, which injects downward inactive gas and is located at the outer periphery of the nozzle 5, and a suction pipe 4 which collects gas therearound and is situated at the inside of the nozzle 5. In the measurement, inactive gas is injected through the nozzles 3 and 5, and a composite pipe is brought to approach the surface of the steel bath. A slug layer 2 is first removed partially by a gas jet stream. This causes the surface of the steel bath to be exposed to inactive gas, which results in diffusing and emitting hydrogen gas contained in the steel bath into atmosphere. A surrounding gas containing the gas emitted from the steel bath is fed to the outside of the system through the suction pipe 4 to determine a quantity of hydrogen in the gas.

    • PURPOSE:To enhance defoaming operation efficiency in eliminating foam with a basket screen, by recovering blocking solids stuck to the screen in the defoaming operation and the defoamed liquid separately from each other without mixing them. CONSTITUTION:Foam is fed into basket 1 of a defoaming machine provided with screen 3 on the inside diameter face of basket 1. The foam is dashed against screen face 3 and broken. The resultant broken foam liquid flows along the floor of basket 1 and discharged out of discharge hole 26. The substance contained in the foam becomes solid, and blocks screen 3, so screen 3 is turned inside out on the outside diameter face of basket 1 to disclose the solids outward, and revolving speed of basket 1 is raised. The solids stuck to screen 3 is peeled off and discharged out of solid outlet 32, thus permitting defoaming effect of screen 3 to be restored by removal of the solids, and deterioration of deforming operation efficiency to be prevented.

    • PURPOSE:To make the removal of screen-clogged solids easy by providing means of disposing a screen to the inner surface side of a frame at the anti-foaming and moving the same to the outer face side of the frame at the removing of the clogged solids. CONSTITUTION:A screen 2 is fixed to a ring 45 by way of a roller 41 on the outer side in the upper part of an outside cage 1 having the screen 2 on the inner surface side, and a cord 36 is fixed to the lower part of the ring 45. The other end of the cord 36 is fixed to a rotary plate 33 by way of the roller 47 and through-hole 37 in the lower part of the outside cage 1. When clogging occurs, the rotation is slowed down to lower a charging pipe 11 down to a predetermined position. This causes the rotary plate 33 to move upward, then the cord 36 lowers the ring 43 and the screen 2 slides downward on the outside surface of the outside cage 1 and turns over. When the outside cage 1 is rotated at a faster speed, the solids clogging the screen 2 are separated and collected into a casing 6. When the charging pipe 11 is returned again, the screen 2 also returns to the inner surface of the outside cage 1.

    • PURPOSE:To make the surface structure of the roll fine by applying extrusion working to the cast ingot having undergone electroslag remelting thereby directing the direction of solidifaction structure to the direction perpendicular to the axial line of the roll axial line and imparting forging effect. CONSTITUTION:In the cast ingot having undergone electroslag remelting, the directions of the columnar crystal having grown by having a fixed angle depending upon solidification structure are approached to the direction perpendicular to the axial line by extrusion process, whereby forging effect is also given. By this extrusion process, the angles of inclination particulary in the surface layer are corrected. In the position extremely close to the surface, the correction becomes excessive and the inclination becomes reverse but these portions are turned by later machining. With this cast ingot, the rate of cooling and temperature gradient at the solidifying are higher, the closer to the surface layer, thus fine structure is exhibited. By effectively utilizing this surface layer, the roll of high quality and high dimensional accuracy of the roll surface may be obtained.
