    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems of the reliability in conventional ferrules for optical connectors made of resin being low due to the generation of dimensional abnormality of the outside diameter, their manufacture being economically difficult and their being unable to be used for connecting with a single-mode optical fiber. SOLUTION: This ferrule is provided with a fitting surface 11, which is fitted into a sleeve so as to be drawn out, a different surface 12 in level which is formed in one end side of the fitting surface 11 and has a diameter smaller than that of the fitting surface 11, an end surface 13 to which the tip end of the optical fiber is faced, a tapered surface 14 which is tapered toward the end surface 13 and is adjacent to the different surface 12 in level, a fiber inserting hole 18 which is opened in the end surface 13 and into which the optical fiber is inserted, and a coated optical fiber guide hole 19 which communicates with the fiber inserting hole 18 and into which a coated optical fiber is inserted. Dimensional abnormality of the outside diameter of the fitting surface 11 accompanied b the violent changes in the orientational property of resin, when the ferrule 10 is injection molded, is relaxed due to the existence of the different surface 12 in level.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide satisfactory outer diameter dimension accuracy, mechanical strength, connection reliability and economicity by providing the inside of a first cylindrical body as the inserting hole of an optical fiber and providing the inside of a second cylindrical body as the coated optical fiber guide hole of the optical fiber. SOLUTION: A ferrule 10 is made double cylindrical, one end of a first cylinder 11 becomes an optical fiber inserting hole 16. There is a flange-shaped holding part 12 around the outer periphery of the cylinder 11. At a top end opposed to the optical fiber inserting hole 16, a second cylinder 14 is protruded into the cylinder 11 while keeping a gap with the cylinder 11, and the terminal parts of the cylinders 11 and 14 are continued excepting for the inner diameter part of the cylinder 14. The cylinder 14 becomes the inserting hole of the optical fiber. Namely, the terminal part of the first optical fiber inserted through the inserting hole of the first ferrule and the terminal part of the second optical fiber inserted through the inserting hole of the second ferrule are abutted inside a connector. Such a plastic ferrule is simultaneously molded together with the holding part and the attachment process of a metal holder is omitted. Further, by using plastic, the cost of materials is reduced.
