摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a plastic ferrule with excellent dimensional accuracy. SOLUTION: The plastic ferrule 21 is composed of a cylindrical part 26, a holding part 27 and an inserting part 28. In the cylindrical part 26, an optical fiber inserting hole 25 and a hollow cylindrical hole 29 are formed. In the inserting part 28, a guide hole 24 for a coated optical fiber is formed. In the cylindrical part 26, a small diameter part 26b having a diameter smaller than that of the cylindrical body 26a is formed between the body 26a and a tapered part 26c. Consequently, the connecting point between the cylindrical body 26a and the small diameter part 26b is less affected by nonuniformity as in a cooling process or resin filling, enabling an excellent out-of-roundness to be realized without causing a flare in the edge part 26e.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve dimensional accuracy, mechanical strength, connection reliability and cost effectiveness by incorporating a resin compsn. which is specific in the ratio of the anisotropy of the resin expressed by the ratio of the property value in the flow direction of the resin and the property value of the direction perpendicular thereto when the resin is injection molded into a ferrule. SOLUTION: The ferrule 101 contains the resin compsn. which contains the additives to lessen the orientability of at least a thermotropic liquid crystalline fully arom. polyester and a thermotropic liquid crystalline polyester and is from 2 to 5 in the ratio anisotropy of the resin expressed with the ratio of the property value in the flow direction of the resin and the property value of the direction perpendicular thereto when the resin compsn. is injection molded. The examples of the additives lessening orientability of the resin include glass beads, quartz beads, graphite, etc. While the coefft. of linear expansion, molding shrinkage rate and modulus of elasticity in bending are usable as the property value, the coefft. of linear expansion is most adequately usable. The angle of the tapered part 103 at the front end of the ferrule 101 is preferably from 25 to 60 deg.C, more adequately from 30 to 60 deg..

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metallic mold which is used when a ferrule for an optical fiber connector to be used for connecting single mode fibers is manufactured by the resin injection molding. SOLUTION: This metallic mold is used when a ferrule for an optical fiber connector is manufactured by the resin injection molding, and is constituted of a cylindrical part having one insertion hole for fixing the optical fibers and involving the connection, a holding part for stably holding this cylindrical part within the optical connector and an inserting part for inserting the optical fibers into the ferrule. In such a case, a cavity part 115 which does not move in accordance with the tightening of the metallic mold forming the ferrule cylindrical part is provided at an inward section of the tip end part thereof with a fine diameter pin 117 inserted into and passing through the insertion hole 116a formed in a pin catcher 116 forming the optical fiber insertion hole, and simultaneously, the central position of the cylinder of the cavity part 115 which does not move in accordance with the tightening of this metallic mold is relatively movable with respect to the central position of the fine diameter pin 117 forming the optical fiber insertion hole with a gauge 119 for eccentricity adjustment.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the flow irregularity of a resin before flowing into a cavity and to extremely simply optimize gate balance by providing protruding members capable of being increased, decreased and altered in the protruding length into respective runners in a mold clamping state to adjust flow resistance. SOLUTION: The resin flowing through a main runner 31a and a gate 32 is increased in flow resistance and the same state as an increase in the flow length of the resin is brought about. By adjusting the length of ejector pins 26, 28 herein, the flow length and flow pressure of the resin can be adjusted so as to become substantially equal to those of the resin flowing through other main runner 31a and other gate 32. Since the respective ejector pins 26, 28 are arranged at an equal distance from the center of a cavity A, the regulation quantities of flow resistance obtained by altering the protruding lengths of the ejector pins 26, 28 coincide. Therefore, flow resistance is easily regulated.

The main surface side of the base plate l is provided with an outside wall 17 enclosing the optical semiconductor element 3. The resin body 15 is formed of the resin packed into the spacing formed by the outside wall 17 and the base plate 1. Since the circumference of the transparent resin body 15 is covered by the outside wall 17, the boundary between the base plate (stem) 1 and the resin body 15 is protected and the trouble occurring in the peeling at the boundary between the base plate 1 and the resin body 15 is prevented.

摘要： PURPOSE:To attain commercial advantage with high speed coating and without any pretreatment and improve temperature characteristics by coating the first layer and the second one by an extruder cross head consisting of a die and a nipple. CONSTITUTION:In coating optical fibers with a thermoplastic rubber compound as the first layer and a molecular oriented thermoplastic resin as the second one, the first layer and the second one are coated at the same time onto optical fibers, which have been heated, softened and spun, by an extruder cross head having a die nipple structure where the nipple top part has 0.2-0.5mm straight pipe shape and the tip lies in the die nozzle. E.g. the above coating is carried out by using a die nipple shown in the figure under an experimental condition of 0.4mm nipple inner diameter 5, 0.9mm die inner diameter 9, 7mm die nozzle length, 2mm distance 6 from the nipple tip to the die nozzle exit ad 320kg/cm resin pressure to coat >=18km length.

The confinement of electric fields is thereby increased and the modulation operation with the low voltage is executed. Then, the org. high-polymer material having the high primary electrooptical effect is used as the material of the waveguide layer and the difference in the specific refractive index from the material of the ambient clad layers is optimized to form the single mode waveguide. In addition, the grounding electrode 6 is separately provided in order to increase the confinement of the electric fields of coplanar line type electrodes 11. Further, the spacing between the upper and lower electrodes is narrowed and, therefore, the modulation operation is executed with the extremely low driving voltage.

The material having the cubic optical nonlinear effect which is excellent in the moldability and mechanical strength is obtd. in this way.
