    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface roughness/shape measuring apparatus, capable of automatically moving a gauge head.
      SOLUTION: The surface roughness/shape measuring apparatus comprises the gauge head 6 for detecting height of the surface position of a measured object, and a gauge head moving mechanism for relatively moving the gauge head to the measured object. Variations in the height of the surface position of the measured object, when the gauge head is relatively moved to the surface of the measured object, are detected, thereby measuring the surface roughness or shape of the measured object. The surface roughness/shape measuring apparatus further comprises a movement information producing section 16 for producing movement information required for moving the gauge head from the present position to a measurement commanding position for detecting height of a commanded surface position of the measured surface, and a movement controller 20 for moving the gauge head relative to the measured object, based on the movement information produced by the movement information producing section.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce an error in measurement by providing an arithmetic which calculates the quantity of curvature and maximum curving position of the shaft from sampled rotational position-radial position data by a method of the least squares through approximation to a sine curve. CONSTITUTION:The measuring instrument for the curvature of the shaft does not detect the radial position displacement of the entire periphery of the shaft 1 directly and calculates the quantity of curvature and maximum curving position of the shaft from sampling data on part (e.g. half periphery) of the periphery by the method of the least squares through approximation to the sine curve. Consequently, even when the curvature of a shaft having a noncircular part like a rack shaft is measured, no crab nipper is required, so an error due to clearance is prevented. Further, when the curvature of a shaft with a burr like a variable rack shaft is measured, the need for a crab nipper is eliminated, so an error due to clearance is prevented.
