    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller for an internal combustion engine capable of calculating target throttle opening accurately.
      SOLUTION: A target engine load rate KLT is calculated. Target throttle opening θtT required for changing an actual engine load rate into the target engine load rate KLT is calculated based on pressure in an intake pipe being pressure in an intake passage on the downstream side of a throttle valve. Whether the target throttle opening θtT can be realized by a step motor or not is determined. When it is determined that the target throttle opening θtT cannot be realized, the maximum or minimum throttle opening capable of being realized by the step motor is set to the final target throttle opening θtTf. The step motor drives the throttle valve so that actual throttle opening coincides with the final target throttle opening θtTf. Pressure Pm in the intake pipe is inferred based on the final target throttle opening θtTf.
