    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of machining a metal part which overcomes limitations of known techniques. SOLUTION: A method of manufacturing a metal housing 14 includes a step of providing a first passage 10 through the metal housing 14, and a step of providing a second passage 12 through the metal housing 14, wherein the second passage 12 includes a region 20 of intersection which intersects the first passage 10 to define an opening 22 into the first passage 10. The method further includes a step of subjecting an inner surface of the first and/or second passage 10, 12 to a heat treatment process to be carburized, and a step of applying a hard stage electrochemical machining process to the carburized internal surface of the first and/or second passage 10, 12 to improve surface finish. Another aspect includes a step of providing a second passage 12 through the metal housing 14 by means of a tool such as an electrochemical machining electrode.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an armature for a solenoid actuator, solving or relieving cavitation.
      SOLUTION: This armature includes: a first face (170;270;370) including a recess (174;274;374) suitable for receiving a pressure spring in use of the armature; a second face (172;272;372) opposite to the first face (170;270;370); and fluid communication means (178;210;370) for providing a fluid flow path through the armature between the recess (174;274;374) and the second face (172;272;372). The first face (170;270;370) is uninterrupted by the fluid communication means (178;210;310). The invention reduces the risk of cavitation damage during operation of the actuator. In one application, the actuator is used in a fluid pump (100, 200) for a selective catalytic reduction system.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-pressure fuel pump assembly capable of improving or overcoming at least several problems related to systems of conventional technology.SOLUTION: A shoe 19 which is guided in a shoe guide 21 having a guide faces 55a-55f engaging with a cam provided on a rotary drive shaft, cooperates with a follower roller so as to reciprocate a plunger of a fuel pump. The shoe 19 has an upper side 25 and a lower side with a partial cylindrical recess formed on the lower side for cooperating with the follower roller. Apertures 57, 59 are provided in the shoe guide 21 and/or in the shoe 19 so as to form a fluid pathway for maintaining fluid communication between the upper side 25 and the lower side of the shoe 19. The shoe guide 21 has a plurality of separate guide surfaces for guiding the shoe 19. The guide surfaces each includes: a side guide surface engaging with first and second side walls 29, 31 of the shoe 19; and an end guide surface engaging with third and fourth side walls 33, 35 of the shoe 19.
