    • PURPOSE:To provide a traffic shaping device of a simple constitution which can perform the traffic shaping operation with high efficiency in an ATM network where plural VPs or VCs are handled. CONSTITUTION:An ATM cell memory 1 is provided to temporarily store the cell to be supplied to an input line 5 until it is ready to be sent, together with an output timing deciding part 2 which decides the time when the input cell is sent out of a VP or VC, a read control memory 3 which stores the cells that are sent at each time, and a clock part 4 which shows the present time. Then the input cell is written in the memory 1 and at the same time the part 2 decides the time when the cell is sent out from the present time that is decided by the characteristic or the history set in response to the VP or VC. Then the cell read-out information is written in the memory 3 to read out the cell corresponding to the decided time. A readable cell is detected out of the memory 3 based on the present time information of the part 4. Then the detected cell is read out of the memory 1.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently transmit cells without exceeding the limit of a band parameter by integrally controlling peak cell rate(PCR) and sustainable cell rate(SCR) on a cell transmission-side. SOLUTION: A band control part 4 judges the transmission time of the cell in a buffer 1 based on the band parameter and cell transmission history and indicates the transmission of the cells to a read control part 3. The read control part 3 reads the cells from the buffer 1 in accordance with an indication from a band control part 3 and transfers them to the cell transmission part of a cell transmission device. The most efficient cell transmission control for satisfying the conditions of PCR control and SCR control becomes possible in the transmission-side from a terminal to a network or a transmission-side from the network to the other network. Thus, cell abolishment caused by the judgment of non-conformity by an UPC/NPC(usage parameter control/network parameter control) function at the entrance of the network in a transmission destination can be prevented. Since PCR control and SCR control are integrated, buffers for accumulating the cells are not necessary to be separately provided, and the quantity of hardware can be reduced.
