    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reduction gear capable of shortening the time required for adjusting the preload of a rolling bearing, an electric power steering device having the same, and a method for manufacturing the reduction gear.SOLUTION: The reduction gear 22 is provided with a worm shaft 31, ball bearings 33, 34 which rotatably support the worm shaft 31, and a preload application member 35 which applies a preload to the ball bearings 33, 34. A cylindrical section 61 of the preload application member 35 is press-fitted into a first inner peripheral surface 53. The first length L1 of the first inner peripheral surface 53 is set to be greater than the second length L2 of a cylindrical section 61. When the preload application member 35 applies a preload to the ball bearings 33, 34, a base end surface 61A of the cylindrical section 61 is located further toward the front end side than the base end section 53A of the first inner peripheral surface 53, and at the same time, the front end section 61B of the cylindrical section 61 is located further toward the base end side than the front end section 53B of the first inner peripheral surface 53.

    • PURPOSE:To eliminate backlash, in a worm reduction gear, by providing a double lead worm meshing with a double lead worm wheel so that the lead worm may be adjustably moved in its axial direction and be biased against the worm wheel. CONSTITUTION:A double lead worm wheel 1 is mounted rotatably about an axis 2 in a housing body 3, and a double lead worm 4 meshing with the worm wheel 1 is rotatably supported by bearings 6 and 7. The bearing 7 is installed in a bearing housing 5 adapted to be rotated by a biasing means 12 about a support shaft 8 fixed to the housing body 3, and the bearing 6 is assembled in an adjust housing 10 in the bearing housing 5. The bearing 6 and the adjust housing 10 are assembled in the bearing body via an adjust ring 9. With this arrangement, the double lead worm 4 may be displaced in its axial direction by changing the size in thickness of the adjust ring 9, thereby adjusting backlash in meshing of the lead worm 4 with the lead worm wheel 1.
