摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber made of a tellurite glass with high nonlinearity capable of avoiding influences of material dispersion, having a large effect on optical signal processing utilizing the nonlinearity, and attaining wideband zero dispersion in a communication wavelength band. SOLUTION: The optical fiber 100 made of a tellurite glass having a zero-material dispersion wavelength equal to or greater than 2 μm has a core region 101, a first cladding section 102 enclosing the core region 101 and having a plurality of air holes 102a in a circumference direction of the core region 101 and along an axial direction of the core region 101, and a second cladding section 103 enclosing the first cladding section 102 and having a refractive index equal to an equivalent refractive index of the first cladding section 102. By controlling a difference in the relative refractive index between the core region 101 and the first cladding section 102 to 2% or more, the zero dispersion wavelength can be controlled to a 1.55 μm band which is the communication wavelength band. 摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an etching solution and an etching method for subjecting the surface of tail light glass to mirror finish etching. SOLUTION: This etching solution which etches the surface of oxide glass comprises an aqueous solution which contains hydrofluoric acid of 0.72-1.08 mol/l and sulfuric acid of at least 0.45 mol/l, or an aqueous solution which contains hydrofluoric acid of at least 0.72 mol/l, nitric acid of at least 0.18 mol/l and sulfuric acid of at least 0.23 mol/l. Further, this etching method is constituted in such a manner that the aqueous solution is subjected to through- flow stirring, the surface of the oxide glass is etched by the aqueous solution and is made mirror finished.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To connect an erbium added telluride glass optical fiber (EDTF) with an optical fiber for communication without inserting a mode field diameter converting part in an erbium added optical fiber amplifier (EDFA). SOLUTION: Mode field diameter of an EDTF is set larger than 6.3 μm. Consequently, the EDTF can be connected with an optical fiber for communication while matching the mode field diameter within 10%. Today, the EDFA is commonly used in saturated region and energy conversion efficiency, dependent on connection loss, is more important than gain coefficient. Since the EDTF is connected directly with the optical fiber for communication in the invention, loss, reliability and yield in manufacturing are enhanced.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a method for maintaining gain spectrum to be constant by controlling independently the upper level and the lower level of ion density of amplification of a thulium added optical fiber amplifier. SOLUTION: This optical fiber amplifier consists of an optical amplification block 10; a light source block 40 provided with pumping light sources 41, 42 inputting pumping lights, and an optical control part 43 for controlling pumping light power to the pumping light sources; and a light monitoring block 20 provided with photodetectors 21, 22 for detecting an input signal light to an optical fiber 11 for amplification and its output signal light, and an operating part 23 for controlling a light control part 43 so as to change the sum and the ratio (distribution ratio) of the amount of forward pumping light and the amount of backward pumping light, on the basis of measured values of the photodetector. When the input signal light power changes and the gain of short wavelength side is decreased, a gain peak is shifted to the short wavelength side. When the gain of long wavelength side is decreased, the gain peak is shifted to the long wavelength side. As a result, the gain spectrum is controlled to be constant.

In at least a portion of the intermediate fiber, its mode field diameter equals the mode field diameter of the planar optical wave circuit and its cutoff wavelength equals the cutoff wavelength of the fiber used in the optical communication system.
