    • PURPOSE:To obtain an alloy having sufficient strength and toughness at a room temp. to a high temp. by specifying the content of Si and Fe as well as one or more kinds among Zr, V and Mo and satisfying specified conditions as for Si grains in the alloy. CONSTITUTION:This alloy is constituted of, by weight, 15 to 25% Si, 3.5 to 6.5% Fe, 0.6 to 2.0% of one of more kinds among Zr, V and Mo and the balance Al and has a structure in which the average size of Si grains is regulated to =15%, its wear resistance and elastic modulus alpha are improved and the coefficient of thermal expansion Ce is reduced, but in the case of >25%, the toughness is reduced. As for Fe, its heat resistance, high temp. strength, alpha and Ce are increased and its ductility and toughness are reduced, but in the case of 6.5%, the ductility and toughness are reduced and the high temp. strength is saturated as well. Zr or the like hardly reduced the toughness and improve the high temp. strength, but in the case of 2%, the reduction of the toughness appears. As for the Si grains, by dispersing them in the above-mentioned manner, sufficient strength and toughness can be obtd.
