    • PURPOSE: To form a coated film having excellent chipping resistance and corrosion resistance at the end face part by painting a cationic electrodeposition paint on a steel sheet, painting a barrier coat having specified composition and properties on the painted surface, and then painting an intermediate coating paint and a finishing paint.
      CONSTITUTION: A cationic electrodeposition paint having a high content of a pigment (e.g., zinc white) is coated on a steel sheet, a barrier coat having -30W-60°C static glass-transition temp. of the coated film and consisting essentially of a modified polyolefin resin is coated on the painted surface, and then an intermediate coating paint and a finishing paint are coated. Consequently, a coated film having excellent chipping resistance and physical properties and good corrosion resistance at the end face can be formed without deteriorating the finished appearance obtainable by a conventional painting system of a steel sheet consisting of electrodeposition paint, intermediate coating paint, and finishing paint.

    • PURPOSE: To enhance the capacity of a paint film, by applying a barrier coat based on a modified polyolefin resin, which forms a film having static glass transition temp. of -30W-60°C, to the outer panel part of a car to which a cationic electrodeposition paint was applied.
      CONSTITUTION: A metal member, to which a cationic electrodeposition paint was applied, and a plastic member are assembled and united to form an automobile outer panel part. A barrier coat, in which a modified polyolefin resin (e.g., a propylene/ethylene copolymer) forming a film having static glass transition temp. of -30W-60°C is compounded as a main component, is applied to the outer panel part. Then, an alkyd resin and a polyester resin are applied to the barrier coat as an intermediate coat and an aminoacrylic resin paint is further applied as a top coat.
