    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multiple wavelength light source which generates light with more wavelengths, and a method for generating multiple wavelength light by using the multiple wavelength light source. SOLUTION: The multiple wavelength light source is obtained according a knowledge that in the case a prescribed multiple wavelength light source is used as the light source, light interference in an optical comb generator is suppressed. That is, the multiple wavelength light source has the optical comb generator to obtain input light and a group of light beams with respective frequencies shifted from the input light with a prescribed frequency intervals and a light adjusting part to adjust light incident on the optical comb generator, wherein the optical comb generator is constructed with an optical fiber loop (105) equipped with an optical SSB (single side band) modulator (101), an optical amplifier (102) to compensate a conversion loss in the optical SSB modulator, an optical input port (103) to which light from the light source is inputted and an optical output port (104) from which light is outputted, and in the light adjusting part a plurality of light beams with wavelengths different from one another are obtained.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide method and apparatus by which a plurality of light sources of single wavelength can be obtained and multi-wavelength light sources having output power nearly equal in each wavelength can be realized.
      SOLUTION: A pulse sequence is configured by making a pulse waveform outputted from a pulse light source into a super Gaussian pulse of the third order or higher, and inputted to a spectrum expanding device. The spectrum expanding device broadens the spectrum of the pulse sequence with a nonlinear medium. A modulator array extracts longitudinal mode components from the expanded spectrum, and modulates the extracted longitudinal mode components with modulation data. Lastly, the modulated longitudinal mode components are coupled and transmitted to a transmission line.
