摘要： PURPOSE:To improve the liquid holding and sucking performance by employing synthetic fiber having water absorbing power in a battery separator containing glass fiber and synthetic fiber. CONSTITUTION:Glass fiber and water absorbing synthetic fiber are employed for constituting a separator. Alkali-containing glass fiber is used for this purpose because glass fibers are stuck together without using bonding agent. The content of glass fiber is higher than 60wt% of the total weight of fiber constituting the separator. Water absorbing synthetic fiber is employed by applying water absorbing treatment onto the surface of non-water absorbing synthetic fiber. In such a manner, liquid holding and sucking performance of separator can be improved while mechanical strength can be improved through reinforcing effect of synthetic fiber.

摘要： PURPOSE:To provide a cell glass mat which is never broken at the bent-up surface during a cell assembly process. CONSTITUTION:A glass mat is composed of glass fibers containing alkali which have an average diameter of 16 to 21mum and an average length of 30 to 100mm. An acrylic resin border having a glass transition point of 0 to -40 deg.C is bonded to a glass fiber mat manufactured by wet weaving method at the weight percentage of 8 to 15% of the said glass fiber mat. Resultant glass fiber mats are easy to slide, properly flexible, very strong, and highly resistant to cracking, so they are easy to handle thus allowing easy work during a cell assembly process. In addition, these glass fiber mats have a small electric resistance and little scattering in thickness, allowing high performance cells to be manufactured. They are also cheap to produce.

摘要： PURPOSE:To reduce electric resistance and enhance heat resistance by impregnating a web layer forming material incorporating therein specific silica powder and acrylic resin in a first layer portion of a separator main body made of a glass fiber layer so as to form a web layer. CONSTITUTION:Glass fiber constituting a separator main body is bonded with an acrylic resin having a glass transition point of 30-80 deg.C, thus obtaining the separator main body, which comprises a first layer portion formed of mainly glass fiber having an average fiber diameter of 17-21mum and a second layer portion made of mostly glass fiber having an average fiber diameter of 11-16mum. A web layer forming material incorporating therein 70-90 parts by weight of silica powder having a specific surface area of 10m /g or more and 30-10 parts by weight of an acrylic resin having a glass transition point of 10-30 deg.C, is impregnated in the first layer portion, thereby obtaining a web layer. Therefore, it is possible to obtain a separator having low electric resistance and excellent in heat resistance.

The suitable content of the small- diameter glass fibers is 60 wt % or more out of the whole glass fibers, especially 65wt % or more being preferrable. water glass, and besides inorganic adhesives containing water glass are appropriate for the water-glass adhesives. Because the glass fibers hence being in the main, liquid absorptivity and liquid maintainability can be improved, particularly the liquid maintainability becoming excellent under a pressurized atmosphere.
