    • PURPOSE:To improve the strength and the electrolyte preservative property of a separator for a storage battery, by including a synthetic fiber with the water absorption property to a glass fiber at a specific content, and making the tensil strength and the buckling strength of the fiber at a specific value or above. CONSTITUTION:A separator for a storage battery is formed of a glass fiber including a synthetic fiber with the water absorption property, and the ratio of the content of the synthetic fiber is set 6-18 wt% or above of the whole fibers composing the separator. And, the tensil strength is made at 800g/15mm wideX1mm thick or more, and the buckling strength is made 70g/10mm wideX1 mm thick or more. The glass fiber is formed of mainly fibers of mean diameter 0.7 to 2mum, and furthermore, the electrolyte preservative property of the separator is made 1.2g/cc or more. Therefore, the ratio of the synthetic fiber with the water absorption property is regulated properly, the mechanical strength of the separator is made to be sufficient when an assembling unit is used in the battery assembling, and moreover, the electrolyte preservative property and the electrolyte absorption swelling property can be improved.

    • PURPOSE:To improve liquid maintainability and liquid absorptivity, by using glass fibers in the main, containing thermoplastic organic fibers, and attaching fibers to themselves with water-glass adhesives. CONSTITUTION:Glass fibets are used in the main, thermoplastic organic fibers are also contained, and the fibers are attached to themselves with water-glass adhesives. Separators in a storage battery, whose main constituents are glass fibers, are preferrably composed of main smalldiameter glass fibers of 2mum or less in average diameter, 0-35 wt % large-diameter glass fibers of 10-30mum in average diameter, and 0-30 wt % middle-diameter glass fibers above 2 mum and below 10 mum in average diameter. The suitable content of the small- diameter glass fibers is 60 wt % or more out of the whole glass fibers, especially 65wt % or more being preferrable. water glass, and besides inorganic adhesives containing water glass are appropriate for the water-glass adhesives. Because the glass fibers hence being in the main, liquid absorptivity and liquid maintainability can be improved, particularly the liquid maintainability becoming excellent under a pressurized atmosphere.
