    • PURPOSE:To perform short-wavelength recording by providing two recording and reproducing heads which have specific widths, putting the 1st head in charge of recording and the 2nd head in charge of reproduction during the 1st period and inverting their operations at the next timing, and thus alternating their operation. CONSTITUTION:A switch SW2 is turned on in a time t1-t2, and a switch SW1 is turned on in a time t2-t3. A signal passed through the switch SW2, i.e. signal detected by a heat tip part is delayed through a delay circuit 5 by a time Tl, phase-inverted by a phase inverting circuit 6, and sent to a mixing circuit 7. At this mixing circuit 7, this signal has the same waveform as a signal passed through the switch SW1 has, and they are added together to improve the S/N by 6dB. Thus, burstlike recording is carried out to eliminate recording demagnetization and gap loss even during reproduction, so this device suits for the short-wavelength recording; and plural recording and reproducing heads are used to record and reproduce a continuous wave.

CONSTITUTION:The output of a rotating cycle detecting section 1 of the feeding side reel is given to an operating section 2 for calculating the remaining time of a tape. Discrimination of the diameter of a reel hub is performed at an operating section 3 for discriminating the hub diameter and the output of the operating section 3 is also given to the operating section 2. The input information required for discriminating the hub diameter is obtained from the detecting section 1 and a separately installed rotating cycle detecting section 4 of the winding side reel. The remaining time of the tape thus calculated is outputted from the operating section 2 and displayed in an output section 5. When the remaining time of a tape is known at the begining by running the tape at a fixed speed, the remaining time of the tape can be outputted and displayed thereafter even when the tape is run under vaious operations modes.
